Papers for visit

People from Russian federation don’t need any visa to visit Kyrgyzstan. It is enough to show their foreign or passport of Russian Federation to come to the country.  The special stamp has to be put to the passport; this stamp is considered as visa. If there is no stamp in necessary document, it may cause problems for you when you leave the country. The other advice; you need to have papers with this stamp all time with you, in case if policeman wants to check out your documents.

 

Currency and prices in Kyrgyzstan.

Local currency in Kyrgyzstan is Kyrgyz som.  There is a possibility to change money everywhere around the country. But the exchange rate can be lower at province comparing with the rate at the main city.

In spite of constant inflation prices at the Kyrgyzstan is still pretty cheap. Rent of the room costs from 25 USD per 24 hrs, food costs from 5-6 dollars for dish,  transport costs from 0.05 USD.

 

How to reach Kyrgyzstan

The best way to come to Kyrgyzstan is by plane. You can use train as well, but of course it will longer way and some problems on the borders at Kazakhstan may spoil your mood.

 

The best time to visit Kyrgyzstan

The weather at the Kyrgyzstan is very heterogeneous, due to the relief.  At the winter the temperature can be around -30 degrees and in summer in valleys the temperature is more than 40 degrees.

The perfect time for visit from May till September, the most famous place is Issyk-Kul Lake. But within last years there are a lot tourists in winter time as well, who are coming to country because of its wonderful mounting ski resorts.

 

Transport

Rail way used to be very vast, but after USSR collapsed, it was reduced to several ramifications.  The main one goes from Russia through Kazakhstan to Bishkek and from Bishkek to Balykchy (capital of Issyk-Kul Lake).  Other ramifications are dealing only cargo transportations.

Busses and minivans are the main means of travel around the country. Vehicles are very old without conditioners and in bad technical conditions.

Taxi is the most expensive way transportation, but you really need to haggle with drivers.  For good money they will bring you to any location faster and will stop at any point you will tell them.

 

Places to stay

There are a lot of hotels and hostels at Bishkek and villages, at different prices and level of service. But usually tourists prefer to stay at Bishkek within 2 or 3 days and go to the mountains, Lake or to the South of the country.
